As you step through the door, you find yourself in a lightly perfumed and thickly carpeted mezzanine space opening into the interior of a tall and ancient stone tower. The rich hardwood shelves that line its walls climb so high that they disappear into the dustmote haze that becomes a catchment for the amber twilight slanting in from narrow apertures above. Around you are scattered books and leaflets, piling atop sofas, divans, desks, tables, and floor cushions. The fiery light streams from the tall windows behind you, and it is exceptionally illuminative, despite the vesper hour.
